My Departure From Austin Venture Association

My departure from Austin Venture Association started last month.

I had to wait on announcing the resignation until after Austin Venture Fest so we could all stay focused with so much activity going on. I ended up covering varying levels of planning, promoting, and running almost 20 events in 2 weeks— I’m ambitious and… that was a lot! 😅

Now after coming up for air I realized that while Venture Fest didn’t end up as an AVA initiative, I know I wouldn’t have been able to pull that off without my experience building AVA.

The reality is of course it’s kind of sad because I didn’t just become the Executive Director, I helped start AVA from nothing. I’m also a little embarrassed about all the sacrificed family & friend time, finances, health, etc, to dump everything into work.

But I’m proud of the progress made standing it up, and I do kind of always disappear off the face of the earth to get fully committed. This is what happens when you’re a founder.

Anyway, the venture scene grew so fast here in Austin, it was an important and opportune moment to create an organization like that. I’m glad to spark something and I will still continue to create and build.

And don’t get too excited, I’m not exactly “on the market” 💁🏼‍♀️ and I’ll share more about my next opportunity soon. For now, thanks to everyone who believed in me, supported me, and built with me.

I hope you understand that I see it as a real investment, we’re just getting started, and no matter where I go you're comin' with me!
